About this item
by Charles E. Duffy (Author)
Behind the Curtain: A Career in Equal Employment & Education Opportunity "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!" ― L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Chuck Duffy began some of his EEO presentations with, "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help you." The line was usually met with laughter, guffaws, and sometimes a note of dread. The early years in the quest for equal employment and education opportunities were marked by starts and stops, twists and turns. Sometimes the 180 shifts were due to changing administrations. Sometimes the internal workings of supervisors and staff generated its own turmoil. In this book, a career EEO administrator shows us some of the starts, stops, and shenanigans of the early years. Duffy also documents decades of progress in the quest for employment equality under the law. If portions seem outrageous and comedic, remember the Great and Powerful Oz! Remember also, that though he was only human, he did create the conditions for the main characters to find heart, brain, courage, and home.
