About this item

by Daniela Levy (Author)

This compelling true story tells the historical saga of the Jews who were driven out of Brazil and then undertook a long, dangerous sea voyage to America to help found the Jewish community in New York. This epic tale of the 23 Jews who, due to religious persecution by Portuguese settlers, left the capital of Pernambuco in 1654 in search of religous freedom and a new life and opportunities is a tragic, but ultimately victorious, episode in the tumultuous history of the Sephardic people.
