The history of Porter County goes back several centuries. The area now known as Porter County was first inhabited by several Indian tribes, primarily the Potawatomi. With the formation of the state of Indiana and the establishment of Porter County, the area grew rapidly. Access to these resorts was enhanced by the construction of the interurban electric railroad, which offered visitors easy access to the area's offerings.
