About this item
by Anne Catherine Emmerich (Author)
Anne Catherine Emmerich's The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ is one of the key sources that inspired Mel Gibson's film, The Passion of Christ. The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ is the record of the visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774-1824), a German nun who displayed the stigmata. Her narrative of the crucifixion is both more violent and detailed than the version recorded in the Gospels. Influenced by medieval Passion plays, Emmerich's version is both disturbing and beautiful. Discover the source of the controversy for yourself.
