Fresh out of college, young Rev. Jacob Chandler is assigned to travel a preaching circuit near his childhood home in southern Ohio. Invited to minister regularly to "travelers" at a nearby stop on the Underground Railroad, he becomes involved in their escape at great peril to himself and his position in the Church. His faith carries him through his many challenges, but when the parents of the woman he loves send her away to prevent her from marrying a poor, "saddlebag preacher," Jacob is devastated. Will he wait for a reunion that may never happen, or will he follow his heart and retrieve her to elope?
